Ummmm yeah, you read that right. No it should not be 5k or even 10k. lol While we were at the Tampa Yankees baseball game my friend Amanda put in my head about doing the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13k on October 24th. So I mulled it over for a couple of days and decided that I needed to attempt to do at least a 10k at this point to see if I could even walk it. If I couldn't do that I didn't think I would be able to do it by the time of the race. So on Thursday (Aug 27th) I set off around our block. I knew before hand that our block is .6 miles. So when talking with Kevin I realized that 5 times around is 3 miles. 10 times around is 6 miles. And basically that means that a 5k is 5 times around our block so each time around is about a 1k. So I set off hoping to do 10 times around. I did fine on the first 6. I even ran for about 8 houses on 5 of the laps. But then I was getting tired, so I knew if I kept doing that I wouldn't make it the 10 times around. I just kept on plugging along. The last two laps were REALLY rough, but I made it in 2 hours. I was DEAD. My legs hurt, my hips hurt, my feet hurt and strangely enough I hurt in a really odd spot. I can't really explain where very well. It is kindof on my lower back/hip area. And to be honest that is where it hurt the worst.
Soooooo with that I decided to do the 13k. I know I can do it. I have two months and will be able to train at least 3 times a week.
But then a wrench got thrown in. I checked out the website to see what needed to be done, the qualifications are that you have to keep an 18 min/mile pace. Well, not sure if I can do that. Right now I am at a 20 min/mile pace and I haven't even gone the whole 13k. I am really worried about this. I wouldn't worry but if you don't keep that pace they take you out of the race. I would be devastated if I paid the money to enter and didn't even get to finish or get any of the finishing prizes. I would feel it was a waste. So we will see. Luckily I have until Oct 1st to make the decision. I told my friend I think I am just going to do the 5k and she told me no way I had to do the 13k! lol She is a great support, but may be my downfall!! hehehehe :-)
I will keep you posted as to what I am going to do. I have "trained" on Sat the 29th, Mon the 31st, Wed the 2nd (I did another 10k--well actually 9.75k lol, it took me just under 2 hours) and yesterday I did the 5k and it took me 54 minutes! So I am bringing my time down and maybe I really can do it. I will keep trying and training.

That sounds fun! I would love to do it. I was thinking about doing the 5K for Gasparilla ( I think they have one) I'll see how I feel in 6 weeks and maybe I can start training.
I have already told you that you can do it.. stop being so negative!mideot

YAY!!! YOU CAN TOTALLY DO IT. I will come over and we can walk together for some of it too. That helps a ton. I know you can do it!!!
I am SO IMPRESSED at your determination and self discipline. Keep going. You can do it. Take Advil for the back pain it is most likely your SI joint that is flared up. Use ice on it after you walk. Keep it up you are awesome!!!
