I am sooooo excited in less than two days the Olympics start (1 day 8 hours and 45 minutes--at the time of this writing--it will begin, now of course, it won't actually be on TV for another 1 day 20 hours and 45 minutes, but who's count? Oh yeah-ME! lol) and you can believe I will be watching or recording it every second of the day that I can! Not to mention that this year they will have tons of live feeds on the internet. I LOVE THE OLYMPICS! People ask me which "ones" I like....hmmmmm....ALL OF THEM?! If it is on I will watch it and love it. Especially if there is someone from the U.S. completing. I cheer, I jump up and down, I yell, "GO! GO! GO!", and yes, sometimes I even cry (okay not sometimes a lot of times! lol What can I say? I am a huge bawl baby!) I love all sports, but the Olympics are just the pinnacle. They are where the best of the best in this world compete with each other. And the fact that it only happens every 2 years (if you count both summer and winter olympics) makes it even more special in my eyes. One day I will go to the Olympics to see them in person. I will go to every event I possibly can.
I also love to collect Olympic pins. I actually start collecting them when I first started working at the credit union. Of course since I work in the credit card department and our credit card product is Visa and "Visa is a Proud Sponsor of the US Olympic Team" we were given some pins. That was in 2000 the Sydney Olympics. I have around 15 pins. One of the VPs that I work with also collects them. He brought his collection in to show me last week and also gave me some of his duplicate pins. I was very excited! He also had this super cool carrying case from Visa of the Torino Olympics. I told him that I really liked and wished I had one. Well he hooked me up!! lol He called the Visa rep and asked if they had any more and lucky me, they had 1 left. He was overnighting it to the VP and so I should get it on Saturday! I am sooooo excited! He also sounded like there may be some pins included with it. If so even more awesome! Once I get it, I will put my whole collection in there and then take some pics and post for you all to see. I have several very rare ones just because I happened to be in the right place at the right time and snatched them up! (If anyone happens to have any that they don't really care that much about, I would love to have them to add to my collection.)
I cannot wait for it to start. I am getting everything prepared and done this week so that at 8/8/08 at 8pm I can sit my hiney in front of the TV and not have to worry about one single chore! I don't want to miss anything! This week has already been busy and the next two days will only be busier. I am in a time crunch now! lol During the next two weeks the only thing I am going to be doing that in any way resembles a chore is exercising. Hmmmm....makes me want a treadmill or a stationary bike right now. Then I could just exercise till my hearts content WHILE watching the Olympics. But I don't, so I will have to take some time out of my Olympic schedule to exercise.
So if any of you want to talk to me, you better do it this week or email me. lol If you call, I can't guarantee I will answer or if I do, that I will be willing to talk too long. Sorry, but for two weeks the Olympics are the only thing I do since I won't get to see them again for 2 years. Even Tye is prepared. He will either quietly watch the Olympics with me or be watching movies. Have several new ones already lined up in our netflix queue! WOOHOO! Me and the Olympics are set!
Will this be a record breaking year? I think many will be broken. Especially in swimming. We are talking about people who are more fit and more importantly full-body swimming suits. Is it fair? Ummm, I am not entirely sure that it is, but at the same time, don't we keep coming up with new or better track suits? It's a toss up. Another thing specifically about swimming. I think it is awesome that Dara Torres is able to even compete at that level at her age, when most have hung up the swim suit 15 years earlier. Secondly, the fact that she is a mother and has gotten back in top shape to kick the tails of kids half her age. People are upset that she would put all this work into coming back when she should be spending time with her child. Excuse me? And how many other mom's leave their kids to go off to work outside of the home? This is her job, it just happens to be she LOVES it! I don't think it is selfish or wrong of her. I think if she can do it--YOU GO GIRL! lol Wish I had her body and I am about 10 years younger! (Hopefully eventually I will! hehe) Will USA be on top of the medal count or will China look to surpass? I certainly hope USA will. Always love it when we do. But you just never know. I hope that the protestors will chill out once the games actually start. I think that there are some things that China is doing that isn't the best, but what country doesn't? It's the cast the first stone if you are blameless. No one is, we can all do better. But I hope in the end, China lets the Games be the Games, not be some political mess. Sorry for my rambling, just random thought in my head about the Olympics. So anyway......
GO TEAM USA! Dream. Believe. Achieve.

OK- I thought I was a fan... but you!? YOU are a fan!!!
I too love to watch the Olympics - summer, winter - it doesn't matter... I love it all! I love the real life drama of it all... the excitement, the pride, the battle... I love hearing the different anthems (but of course, especially OURS!). I do not however collect pins - so I can't hook ya up there... however, the Winter Olympics are sort of gonna be in my backyard (Whistler, Canada), and we've been talking of going... so if we do - I will get you a pin!
