Tye's First Day of Pre-K 081808

Okay so I am a little late posting this (but hey the week isn't over yet so not too bad! lol). Monday was Tye's first day of VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten). We decided to do this last minute for a couple of reasons. Number 1 it is FREE in the state of Florida! (And you know how I am with getting anything for free! lol) Secondly, I really think he needs it to help him with his speech. I think being around other kids that are his same age and seeing how they talk will really help him. We also want to make sure that he is ready and on point for school next year. I really think he is there, but want to just make sure. Mostly for his speech though cause he really needs that.

So we signed him up for a pre-k class that is just down the road from us (we are actually going to start walking to and from school when it gets a little cooler--that's how close it is). So I got all his stuff ready last week except for the backpack. The school said they wanted one of those little backpacks, I always think of those ones that are red, yellow and blue. Well could I find one anywhere??? NO WAY, unless it was pink had princesses, barbie or my little ponies on it! Kevin said there was no way his kid was going to go to school with a pink backpack he would be made fun of for sure! lol So I finally found a Lightning McQueen lunch box that I thought would have to do, at least for now. So we got his name on everything and set it by the front door. Oh they even have to wear "uniforms" to school! Mostly just the school polo shirts and then any pants or shorts.

He was so excited when he found out he was going to start going to school. He asked me the next day to go to school and when I told him no he went off and pouted and tried to pretend to cry. lol I had to tell him he didn't start for 2 weeks. So then he kept saying 2 more weeks and I go to school. Then it was 1 week and finally it was tomorrow and then today.

So on Monday we got him all ready and got his "backpack". He looked so cute (of course, when doesn't he?! lol) He was so excited to go, but then we get there and he does his usual shy number and hides behind me. But I just took him over and he found the trains (even though he wasn't supposed to be playing with those at that time) and then his teacher got him in the right area and I left.

I was so proud of myself, I didn't even cry. You know it is kindof strange with me, I swear I don't cry on really special days, I cry at stupid little stuff! lol I didn't hardly cry when I got married, I hardly cried when we had Tye sealed to us, and now I didn't cry when he went to school for the first time. It's not that I am not sad or think it is sweet I am just weird! lol It's not weird to leave him some place for a few hours. Maybe it is because even though I am a stay at home mom most of the time, I still leave to go to work and am away from him and would drop him at friend's houses to watch him so I am used to it?! I don't know, but I did not cry.

When I went to pick him up I tried to get a picture of him in his classroom but he did not want one and put his head down. What a silly boy. Oh and by the way, the lunchbox was too small, they told us the larger size is just fine (goobers, then why say you have to have a small backpack and the large ones are going to be sent home?)--ARGH! We got one today that is Batman. He thinks it is pretty cool and it isn't too big but not small either. They said it was fine so we are all happy now! lol (I will post a pic of him with it later.)

I asked him if he wanted to go back to school again and he told me "no, school's closed it is going to rain tomorrow." lol They closed the schools for the hurricane, which didn't even hit us, in fact we have gotten more rain today than we did the day the hurricane came (which was NONE--lol!). Anyway, afterwards he told me yes he liked it and wanted to go back after the rain left.

The last two days when I have gone to pick him up he has come RUNNING to me, yelling "MOMMY!!" It is so nice to be loved and wanted. He rarely comes running when I get home from work (just for daddy lol) so to have him do it each day when I come to pick him up from school is really nice. He is really enjoying it and as I walked out today with him I heard his teacher tell the aide, "He is so darn cute! I just love him!" hehe, makes a mother's heart swell with pride...that is when I cried (but just for a moment!).
