Relief Society Birthday Party "A Purse-onal Night" 03/01/11

I am not sure if I have told all you or not, but I am the Additional Relief Society Meeting Coordinator (or whatever my title is! lol). Anyway, that basically means I am in charge of the monthly women's meeting at church.

This month's theme was the Birthday party of the Relief Society. My friend Amanda suggested we do a "purse"-onal night. So I started scouring the internet and checking all the websites I could find that they have used this for it and started piece mealing things together, choosing what I liked best from each site.

Anyway, we borrowed a lady's cool purses and put on the tables and attached balloons to them. We had ladies donate their china set to be used as our plates for the meal. The tables looked so COOL!

Then Amanda made some cute little paper bags with purses on the front. We also used the little purses as our sign in early bird drawing. Aren't they cute? I am sorry the picture is kindof crappy, but you get the idea. We had a little york peppermint patty in the bags. We had a little "getting to know you game" when they first came in. And then went over the results to see who had done all the things.

I had made italian crock pot chicken (5 crockpots full! lol) and then we had rice and noodles to put it over. We served it with a yummy salad that has strawberries, mandrin oranges, raisins, heath bar chips, and I am not sure what else in it (I must get the recipe for it! lol). Then they could choose green beans or broccoli and have Sister Shubert rolls (have you had those? They are the bomb! lol). We had a birthday cake from Costco for dessert. We had half the group get their food while the other half had to weigh in their purses! Then they switched after they got done eating.

After the final weigh in which ended up with the heaviest purse at 7 or 8 pounds (I can't remember) and the lightest purse at 1/2 pound. We played "What's in Your Purse?" (name taken from "What's in Your Wallet?", and played like the Let's Make a Deal game). We had stashed a few "items" in people's purses...like a black push up bra, a tiara, and a pretty "nightie" (wink, wink). The nightie got put in this 80 year old woman's purse and she pulled it out and was like "I don't even remember how to put this on anymore!" OH MY GOSH it was sooooooooooooooo funny, everyone was just a hooting the whole game!

I was clearing dishes and didn't end up taking any pictures, but luckily the pictures that I have are from Amanda.

After the game I read a story about a lady trying to find the purfect purse and how even though we want something to fill all our needs God wants someone who's needs he can fill. You can find the story here.

Then a couple of us sang a song called Your Purse-onal Journey. It is super funny and cute. You can click on the image below and see the words a little better.

And finally we had a lady who gave a talk about the different kind of purses you have over your lifetime and how they relate to the different stages of life and such. Thanks April, you did a great job!

First of all, I want to thank my committee and especially Amanda, she is the counselor in the presidency over me and she does way more than she should have to. I try to prevent her from overdoing it, but I am not always successful, she is AWESOME and I am so thankful for her! Thanks girl!

Everyone really enjoyed it, we got so many compliments and people went out of their way to send thank you emails and facebook messages. So glad it is over though. lol Now how to we top it next year?! lol
