Daisy update 05/14/10

Today we took the puppy to the specialist/surgeon. He looked at her X-Rays and said that she has a fractured shoulder on the inside of the bone. He said that she was probably dropped, kicked or hit by a car. :-( Poor baby. He checked her other joints for any problems and didn't find anything.

He told us that he felt that it would heal on its own and recommended we not do anything. He said of course it would be a little "disformed" meaning the bone would still stick out and never be straight, but that it would heal enough for her to continue to use it for many years. He said that since she is little and still getting around great, running, jumping, and not in pain that he did not feel surgery would help her any at this time. He said that he wanted to see her and have x-rays done each year to make sure it isn't getting worse, but other than that she is fine. He also told me we did not have to continue to give her pain meds, but said to keep them on hand in case she has a spill like she did in the kitchen a week ago, where she was tearing into the kitchen and her feet slipped out from under her and she fell on it.

I am absolutely thrilled! I prayed that he would say something like that. I also am so grateful we were referred to him. The receptionist at our vet told us he was great and would tell us honestly what needed to happen. He could have easily said we needed to do surgery just to get the money, but he didn't. He and the assistant were extremely loving to Daisy and listened to how we felt and what we knew of her situation. It was a terrific experience. I will definitely recommend them to anyone and go back next year to get the X-rays done (well I will probably get them done at our vet, probably much cheaper) and then take them to him to look at. lol

So here is our girl from a couple of days ago. :-) She really has been a terrific dog. So much fun and so loving. We are definitely glad we got her. :-)

Glad you don't have to pay for surgery, I've been watching a show called, My Dog Ate What? and it kills me what they eat and the cost for surgery, yuck! She sure is super cute!
