Our New Addition 04/29/10

Introducing...DAISY!!
Last Thursday Mary decided that we needed to go to the pound. Well I knew that was trouble, but went anyways. lol I saw an adorable poodle who looked so sad like she just wanted a home. But didn't really see anything else that caught my eye.

Well it wasn't hard to convince Kevin and Tye and Jack to go with us again on Saturday to look at the dogs. So we looked at every dog in every pen and every cat and every rabbit they had there! lol The poodle was still there but neither Tye nor Kevin really cared that much about her, even though I really liked her. After we got through all the animals we asked Tye, "so was there one you liked?" And he said yes and we said, "well which one do you want?" And he beelined back to the very first row of pens. As soon as he took off I knew which one he wanted. So we followed him and he went running looking for the dog he wanted in each pen. Well he passed the pen of the one I thought he wanted and I said, "buddy, which one are you looking for?" And he said, "the one with the hurt arm." So I said, "you mean this one?" And he came running back and looked in the pen and said, "yeah this one, I want her!" Oh man, I am in trouble now! Then he squats down (pic below) and asks her "do you want to be my pet?" Oh no, just kill me now! lol It was sooo sweet! We knew she was the one.

So we went to the front and asked to have a "visit" with her. We filled out the adoption application and everything was approved and they led us back for a visit. We went in to a little caged area and when I held her she was so calm. But when I put her down she ran and played and everything. They said when she came in she was favoring her paw so they put a splint on it. Since they don't have an X-ray machine they aren't sure if it is a fracture or if it is carpal something. Jack said she has been typing too much so she has carpal tunnel! lol Anyway as you will see in the video below she hobbles around pretty good. Oh and if you are wondering, we have no idea what she really is. lol They said Terrier mix, but we are pretty certain she is german shepard something. She just has the markings and floppy ears like a german shepard puppy, we didn't really want a big dog, but how can you say no to "I want her" and "do you want to be my pet?"???????? You can't. But we will see what the vet says when we take her in.

Saturday night we went out to dinner with friends and Tye told them all about his new puppy. One of the ladies, Sarah, asked him what he was going to name her and he told her "Pluto". We had already discussed this once and told him he couldn't name her Pluto since that is a boy's name and she was a girl. We had already offered up some names, but nothing really stuck. Then Sarah said, "what about Daisy, like Daisy Duck?" Tye really liked it and said, "yeah Daisy the dog!" I liked it too, so we agreed on Daisy (the dog). lol
So yesterday I went to see her again. As soon as I went up to the pen she turned her whole side against the cage and wanted me to pet her. Her tail was a wagging and she was so excited to see me. The guy at the desk told me we wouldn't be able to take her home until Friday because she didn't become state property until Thursday at midnight. (Even though he had originally told me it would be Thursday day we could have her.)
I told Tye and Kevin about it yesterday after Tye got home and he was very good about it. I thought for sure he would be upset. But he just said, "that's okay, just another night night." WOOHOO! lol
Well about 6:15 last night they county called and said she was available because she had not been claimed by anyone. So we were free to go get her anytime Thursday. (It was midnight Thursday MORNING not Thursday NIGHT.) So I talked to Kevin and we definitely wanted to go pick her up as soon as we could before Tye got home from school. Kevin had Thursday off work because they are making them take 4 days off prior to May 28. So it worked out perfectly.
So today around 1pm we headed out to the pound to pick her up. They said she was in with the vet getting her splint changed. So we finished up the paperwork and then wandered through the kennels. Then the guy called me and told us the vet was done with her and she was ready to go home. We got her and headed home.
We got home just before the bus was about to be there, so I stayed at the bus stop and Kevin brought her home. He forgot to have her go potty so as soon as she walked in the door she wet on the entryway floor.
I got Tye off the bus and we headed home. I still didn't tell him so it wasn't until he actually came in the house that he saw we had her home! He was so surprised!!!
And happy!
They played.
So here she is. Daisy.

She has not had another accident in the house and started whining when she needed to go out if I haven't already taken her. She has done really well, so hopefully this housebreaking bit will be really easy with her! :-)

She is sooo adorable and cute! She does have a terrier face like my Chico. Not sure where those floppy ears come in though. I'm glad you finally got Tye a dog. :)
